About Moon Days

Practicing yoga is practicing being in harmony with ourselves and our environment.

Ashtanga yoga practitioners follow the cycle of the moon, resting whenever the moon is full, and also resting whenever the moon is new (dark). Over time, practicing and resting in tune with the moon allows insight to sprout within us. Rising and waning energy is life; it is breath; it is sunrise and sunset; it is season. Through yoga, we learn to rise and rest when the time is right, acting as a part of our world, rather than in isolation and in opposition to it.

There is no class on full or new moon days.

Authentic Relating

What is Authentic Relating?

Authentic Relating is a practice - and a set of tools - that fosters deeper connection with others. It invites us to show up with presence, awareness, and skillful honesty in every aspect of life (romantic, friends, family, work etc). It overlaps with other relational practices like Non Violent Communication and Circling.

People practising Authentic Relating, even for the first time, usually report:

  • Greater self awareness and emotional clarity

  • Deeper sense of connection to self and to others

  • Clearer communication and more fluency in navigating conversations, including situations of conflicts and repairs

Who is this workshop for?

Anyone curious about personal growth, wanting more ease and connection in their interactions, interested in improving their relational skills, or wishing to gain a formal understanding of AR frameworks and mechanics.

No prior knowledge of Authentic Relating is required. You just need to:

  • Have an interest in having fulfilling relationships with others, working on your emotional intelligence, or learning how to communicate more effectively

  • Come with an open and playful mind and the understanding that this is a space to experiment together with ways of relating that may be out of the usual (i.e. expect playfulness and quirkiness)

No need to commit and come to all Fundamentals of Authentic Relating series as sessions are independent from each other.

More about what to expect…

Fundamentals of Authentic Relating (AR) is a workshop series (3rd Saturday of each month between February and June 2026) to learn and practice Authentic Relating. It’s for people who want to bring more awareness, honesty, and connection into their relationships. Sessions are themed and we’ll begin by exploring how to notice what is happening inside (Feb), followed by listening more deeply (Mar), developing curiosity (Apr), expressing oneself with clarity and courage (May), and navigating boundaries and conflict with care (June).

In February we are exploring ‘Noticing’:

  • Slow down to increase our awareness of the present moment

  • Track the wholeness of our experience through sensations, emotions, and thoughts

  • Be more mindful of where our attention goes and where aliveness leads us

  • The extent to which we can park our judgements and welcome what is

  • Aware presence as a relational gift

The workshop is mostly experiential. You can expect a mix of structured activities in pairs or small groups (55%), facilitated reflection time (30%) and teachings (15%).

After the workshop you will be emailed session notes (a summary of teachings, prompts for self reflection, suggestions for integration in daily life etc.)

We aim to foster a sense of connection, insight, and fun in/between participants.

About the Fundamentals of Authentic Relating Series

During this five part series, we’ll explore a different theme each month. Even if connected, each workshop is a stand alone experience, so come for one, come for some, or come for all!

Exploring Backbends: A Collaborative Workshop With Amanda & Sangeetha

Join Amanda and Sangeetha for a practical, supportive workshop exploring the art of back bending. Together, we'll share simple, effective approaches that we ourselves have used to develop physical fluency on the mat.

About Your Teachers

Amanda Ferris brings 25 years of dedicated practice and is a Level 2 Authorised Ashtanga yoga teacher. Deeply rooted in the traditional teacher-student relationship at  the heart of Ashtanga yoga, Amanda's strengths lie in maintaining steady practice containers, and nurturing authentic growth in her students through compassion, consistent presence, and guidance.

Sangeetha Nagaratnam has been Amanda's student for several years and is now an apprentice teacher at Mysore Melbourne, where our community has witnessed her blossom into one of its most physically advanced practitioners. As Sangeetha reflects: “What began as a physical practice has evolved into something so much more. With her gentle yet powerful presence, Amanda has guided me through the intermediate series with patience, strength and steadiness. The deep trust in our teacher-student relationship gives me confidence to go beyond what I think is possible." While Sangeetha's practice flourishes within this traditional mentorship, her success in asana is also fueled by her technical mind and movement explorations beyond her Ashtanga yoga practice.

Our Approach

We value and protect the meditative, listening space our Ashtanga yoga practice provides us. You can trust that our guidance in this workshop is intended to support your exploration and physical fluency, not to interrupt the focus and flow of your daily practice. We're excited to share practical techniques and insights that have supported our own exploration and growth. You can expect body-aware, thoughtful suggestions.

Whether you are newer to backbending or a more seasoned backbender, we'll meet you where you are and support your ongoing journey with patience, skill, and genuine care.
