Mentorship
Individual Mentorship
Over the years, I've worked closely with a small number of students in ongoing mentorship relationships. These are rich, long-term connections with practitioners who are deeply committed to their practice and want to deepen their understanding of yoga through the lens of teaching Mysore-style Ashtanga.
I'm drawn to working with people who are serious about their own practice first - often those who've completed teacher training and are discovering that teaching raises more questions than it answers. Mentorship isn't about learning a curriculum; it's about developing your capacity to see, to respond, and to hold space for others in their practice.
These relationships unfold differently with different people, shaped by what each person needs and where their questions lead. What they have in common is an established teacher-student relationship built on trust, and a genuine commitment to the work.
If you're interested in individual mentorship, reach out. We'll have a conversation about where you are, what you're working with, and whether this kind of relationship makes sense for both of us.
Practitioners Circle
Occasionally, I form a Practitioners Circle (formerly Mentor Group)- a small cohort (5-10 people) who meet regularly to extend their learning about yoga.
Practitioners Circle is an open and welcoming space for curiosity, reflection, and deeper inquiry. These sessions are conversational and relational - we explore together rather than following a set curriculum.
Who it's for:
Practitioners wanting to deepen their understanding of the Ashtanga method as it's taught at Mysore Melbourne
Anyone wanting to connect with fellow practitioners and explore yoga beyond the mat
Students with questions about philosophy, history, tradition, methodology, or the challenges of practice
Format: Six 3-hour Saturday sessions across 4-5 months
Cost: $800 for the full series
What we explore: These sessions are conversational and grounded in practice. We explore questions like: What is yoga? What is Ashtanga yoga? How do we understand this method and stay true to its essence while teaching with presence rather than rigidity? We look at classroom culture, boundaries, language, touch, and the challenges of holding space. We consider how to talk about yoga with others, navigate cultural appropriation, and balance structure with the unfixed nature of reality. Philosophy, form, adaptation, and the lived experience of being a practitioner all have a place here.
Many people who participate in Practitioners Circle go on to longer-term individual mentorship.
The next Practitioners Circle will be announced when it forms. Let us know if you'd like to be notified.
