Relationship - The Heart of Ashtanga Yoga

In March this year, I embarked on a new path of study in Gestalt Psychotherapy. Truthfully, it’s not an entirely new pathway - I’ve been involved in Gestalt groups and therapy for nearly as long as I have been practicing yoga.

As my study deepens, I’m appreciating resonance and feeling affirmed and supported in my teaching choices and the values built into Mysore Melbourne. We are deeply rooted in the traditional teacher-student relationship that lies at the heart of Ashtanga yoga. Sure, it can be tough to be seen by an observing teacher - I’ve been there! And it can so be very sweet and deeply supportive to be witnessed and held dear, whilst being guided through a process.

This special thing about Ashtanga yoga, the relationship to teacher and community, is too easily lost online, on Youtube, or in a one-size-fits-all studio class. It is so meaningful to me, that I continue to devote my working life to teaching and supporting teaching by cultivating the business side of it. I’m delighted and grateful to you who turn up and trust me, and Kate, and Sangeetha, and our community to hold and support you in the spirit of yoga, in the way we know how.
